We started with a vision in 2024 of launching a state-of-the-art, tech-forward indoor vertical farm with the goal of growing local, fresh, nutritious food to feed our Boston community. Thus Rebel Sprouts was born, and with our expansion into over five types of produce less than a year later- we rebranded into Rebel Farms.
With our indoor farm established, we began looking at how we could use our vertical farming technology to bring a pet product to the Boston market and in late 2025, the Urban Turf was born.
We're pet parents just like you- and like yourself, we're always striving to make the best possible life for our four-legged family so creating a better alternative to synthetic pet relief products felt like a natural extension of what we already do best.
What started as an experiment inside our farm quickly became something much bigger. We developed a dense, living grass mat designed to bring a little piece of the outdoors to patios, balconies, apartments and other places where pets may not have easy access to grass.
And people—and their pets—responded.
So we gave The Urban Turf a home of its own.
Today, every Urban Turf is still grown locally by Rebel Farms, using the same hands-on growing philosophy behind our original farm. No artificial turf. No plastic grass. Just the real thing, grown close to the community it serves and delivered fresh throughout Greater Boston.
