The Urban Turf didn't start as a pet company.
It started at Rebel Farms, our indoor vertical farm just outside Boston, where we spend our days growing living things.
The idea was pretty simple:
If we can grow fresh food year-round for people, why couldn't we grow a little piece of the outdoors for their pets?
So we did.
A LITTLE PATCH OF OUTSIDE
The Urban Turf began as one of our farm's experiments: a dense, living grass mat that could bring a natural outdoor surface to places where grass isn't always easy to find.
Apartments. Balconies. Patios. Hotels. City sidewalks.
But we quickly realized its usefulness went well beyond city living.
Puppies learning where to go. Senior dogs who can't always make the trip outside. Rainy days. Snowstorms. Long workdays. Pet-friendly businesses. Cats looking for something green to investigate.
Sometimes, having a patch of real grass nearby is just... useful.
FROM FARM PRODUCT TO A BRAND OF ITS OWN
What started as a Rebel Farms product began developing a following of its own.
So we decided it deserved a home of its own, too.
The Urban Turf™ is now its own brand — but we're still growing it the same way we always have: locally, intentionally and with actual farmers behind it.
No giant warehouse filled with artificial turf.
No pretending plastic grass is the same thing.
Just real, living grass grown for real pets.

Every Urban Turf begins at Rebel Farms in Greater Boston.
Our indoor growing model allows us to produce living grass throughout the year — including when a New England lawn outside might be buried under six inches of snow.
We grow it. We tend to it. And when it's ready, we get it to you fresh.
